ANATOMY OF RECOVERY

After years of readiness, this may be the year that the aircraft recovery team has its chance to use its recovery plan. The plan is complex, weather-dependent and subject to change with each development in the recovery.

The recovery plan can be divided into roughly six stages:

Preparation

Examination

Resurfacing

Extraction

Preservation

Transport

Tales from the sky

Weather on the lake can change dramatically in a fairly short time. And during the missions several days or parts of days are always lost to 'WOW' - Waiting On Weather.

In most cases, it is high waves which are threatening to the 14' aluminum boats used to conduct some operations and transit around the lake. Even the pontoon boat used for surveying gets a good beating from the heavy wave action.
