There were at least five, perhaps six attempts to find the Standard between 1975 and 1984; Bill Brereton recalls his first mission to find G-CAJD was in 1978, and that at least twice the group went out in the winter with the Military dragging a magnetometer over the ice.
The next record of a search team heading to Charron Lake is in 1985. Again, Museum members accompanied by Manitoba Underwater Council divers traveled to solve the mystery. On this trip, the team searched an area gridded out and used echo sounders marking each suspicious bump on the bottom. Divers checked out only the most probable sites as the area was quite large. They were unable to completely search the area with the available time.
The mission was plagued by heavy snow and high winds. Again, the team was unsuccessful. However, they left confident that they had completely ruled out the area they had searched.
In 1986, the team mounted another recorded search, but came up emptyhanded. No searches were recorded between 1986 and 1992.
