One of the first organized searches on record was conducted in March 1975 by members of the Museum as well as members of the Manitoba Underwater Council.
They were transported to Charron Lake by two Canadian Air Force Otters. Air Force personnel remained with the search team for both days and provided transportation and assistance as required. The second Otter transported men and equipment to Charron Lake from Winnipeg and back and did not remain.
The team arrived at Charron Lake on Saturday and searched an area to the east using snowmobiles towing toboggans carrying electro-magnetic detecting equipment. They discontinued searching late in the afternoon and then the Otter flew the team to Berens River where they spent the night.
They returned the following day and continued the search. The equipment indicated one possible target mid afternoon which was negative and the team returned to Winnipeg.

Tales from the sky
This now extinct aircraft will prove to elude the recovery team for the next 30 years.
Conflicting stories as to its where-abouts will lead many dives to come up empty handed.
Charon Lake will prove to be a challenge because of its size and depth.
